Yoga Foundations for Nurses is an evidence-informed, on-demand continuing education course designed to support nurse self-care while introducing foundational yoga practices aligned with holistic nursing principles. This course focuses on reducing stress, improving sleep, regulating the nervous system, and supporting overall well-being in demanding healthcare environments. Designed specifically for nurses, this program integrates modern yoga philosophy, restorative yoga, breathwork (pranayama), and yoga nidra to support resilience, mindfulness, and sustainable self-care. Emphasis is placed on safety, alignment, and appropriate application within nursing scope of practice.
Led by Jim Keegan and Dr. Vanessa Ruiz, ND, RN-BSN, this course offers practical, accessible tools nurses can use for their own well-being while gaining insight into how yoga-based practices complement holistic, patient-centered care.
What You’ll Learn
By completing this course, participants will:
Understand the foundations of yoga philosophy and the 8 Limbs of Yoga
Explore evidence-based benefits of yoga for stress, sleep, and nervous system regulation

90% of live attendance when offered and view recordings of missed sessions

What times are the sessions?
Live online sessions when offered are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays 4-6 pm.

Yes, the sessions are online and are recorded and can be accessed by the Squarespace Learning Platform.

Yes. No prior yoga experience is required. This course is designed specifically for nurses new to yoga or seeking a structured, foundational approach.
Is this course focused on teaching yoga to patients?
No. This course emphasizes nurse self-care and foundational understanding, not yoga instruction certification.
Are supplies required?
Recommended supplies include a yoga mat, two blocks, and pillows or bolsters (not included).
Do I need any textbooks to purchase?
No, course material is included. Other supplies for this course include 2 blocks, pillows, yoga mat that are not included in registration fee.
